06.04.2013 – Monduran Fishing Update

Once again we have the privilege of Jamie Bein from Lake Monduran Barra Charters sending us weekly fishing updates from the dam. He also gives tips on what is working and hopefully will help you hook your next big fish!

So here is the first report for 2013:-

Hi all I’m Jamie from Lake Monduran Barra Charters. I have been fishing in and around Insane Bay and have got barra each time I have gone in there. The other bays I have been in such as Pig Trap and the Two Mile all have had barra in them.

You need to fish these bays with the wind blowing into them and fish up in the shallow water as that is where I’m finding all my barra. Insane Bay is and can be a little hard to fish so go into the bay until you come to where it splits into two, with one going off to the left and the other going to the right. Now if the wind is a south easterly you need to fish the right leg, but if it is north easterly you need to fish the left leg. They both fish differently. In the right leg fish between the lily pads and the standing timber on both sides. When you fish the left leg stay back from the lily pads and cast to them.

Now I’m finding Rapala xraps are working very well in all colours but only in the 10cm style. If you have them suspending, then when you get to your snag, your standing tree or lily pads, let them sit there for a short time then twitch them and you may need to do this more than once. Some barra have been caught down the south arm but I’m not really sure where. One thing that I would like to point out is you don’t need to by expensive lures to catch barra. So til next week tight lines. Jamie.
