About Us
Monduran Anglers and Stocking Association (MASA) is a community based group of volunteers. MASA has strong partnerships with Australian government, Bundaberg Regional Council, Queensland Primary Industries and Fisheries, regional businesses and many other regional not for profit groups.
Our History
Established in 1997, MASA has created, maintains and is further developing a recreational freshwater fishery that delivers millions of tourist dollars to the Wide Bay Burnett region.
MASA is a not-for-profit group of volunteers who are legally registered to manage the stocking of Lake Monduran with Barramundi and Bass under the governance of the Stocked Impoundments legislation.
Since 1997 Monduran Anglers and Stocking Association (MASA) has released over 2.5 million Barramundi and 1.5 million Australian Bass fingerlings. Barramundi over 1 metre and Trophy sized Australian Bass are caught along with the ever-present Catfish. Monduran is also home of the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) World Record Barramundi which was caught on 12 December 2010 being 44.64kg (98 lb 6 oz), 134cm long with a girth of 107cm. This makes Lake Monduran one of the most popular freshwater fishing lakes in Queensland.
The lake is located 20km north of Gin Gin in a beautiful rural area and is visited by not only Queenslanders, but interstate and international visitors.
MASA currently maintains a Lake Monduran facility, which, during our main events, provides free aquarium viewing and printed information about Australian native and noxious fishes.
Our Purpose
MASA has a strong commitment to fish breeding and fish stocking at Lake Monduran. We also promote Lake Monduran / Fred Haigh Dam with competitions and promotional activities throughout the year.
