Boating & Fishing Safety Information

BOATING AND FISHING SAFETY

Lake Monduran is the fifth largest freshwater lake in Queensland and at 100% capacity, covers around 5000Ha. The lake is approximately 35km in length and has many tributaries. Please take care if you do not know the lake well.  Make sure that you have enough fuel to return home if you intend to fish the top end of the dam. As there will be many boats on the water, please be considerate of other anglers and limit your wake. There are many hazards in the lake and surrounds such as slippery banks, steep embankments, variable water quality including blue green algae and others. Competitors are advised to take particular care and will be responsible for their own safety. They must comply with all Queensland Transport, Queensland Fisheries Service and all other regulations normally associated with fishing and boating. No liability whatsoever will be accepted by MASA for any event, action or injury incurred during or in association with the competition.

PLEASE WATCH FOR SUBMERGED, SEMI-SUBMERGED TIMBER AND FLOATING OBJECTS

Lake Monduran is well stocked with Barramundi, Australian Bass and Gar and has a naturally occurring population of Catfish, Jewfish, Spangled Perch, Eels and other species. If you intend to weigh a fish in live, please ensure that you have a big enough container to keep the fish healthy and alive. Please refer to the rules for the weigh-in requirements.

Please be careful when handling large fish as the spikes and gill rakers can inflict serious injuries. Never place your fingers in the gills of a barramundi to lift them. Use a landing net or lip grab the fish and support its body with your other hand. All Catfish and Jew have spines that can inflict a painful injury. Handle them with care and de-spike catfish before dead weigh-in. Do not de-spike Jewfish, as they must be weighed in alive. All fish weighed or measured in are the responsibility of the angler.
